Athletic Therapy is a certified healthcare profession that provides assessment, treatment, prevention and active rehabilitation of injuries and pain to joints and soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments). They have comprehensive knowledge, education and training in the human musculoskeletal system, exercise physiology, biomechanics and advanced emergency care.

These practitioners use manual and exercise-based therapy to treat patients of all ages. Athletic therapy’s goal is to promote healing to help prepare you to safely return to regular activities.

Examples of manual treatment techniques include:

  • Myofascial release
  • Soft tissue release
  • Trigger point release
  • Craniosacral therapy
  • Therapist-assisted stretching techniques
  • Joint mobilizations
  • Muscle energy techniques
  • Traction

After the assessment, if the therapist feels you would benefit from a different type of therapy or further medical intervention is required, they will happily refer you to the appropriate professional.

Initial appointment:
60 minutes

During this time your athletic therapist will:

  • Listen to your concerns and health history
  • Do an in-depth assessment of your injury or pain
  • Consider your body as a whole to determine the nature and cause of your pain or injury
  • Discuss their findings with you and answer your questions
  • Propose a treatment plan

In most cases, your athletic therapist will:

  • Provide treatment 
  • Suggest a home exercise program
  • Share instructions for selfcare 

Follow-up appointments: 
60 minutes

Your athletic therapist will discuss your progress, answer your questions, provide treatment and follow up on your home care program and adjust if necessary.
