Clinical Pilates at Acacia Health is a chiropractor-guided form of exercise that uses controlled, purposeful movement to rehabilitate injury, address pain, and improve how your body moves and feels. Unlike a general Pilates class, it’s built around your assessment findings and adjusted as you progress.
At Acacia Health, Dr. Rose draws on four core principles — what she calls her 4 C’s — to guide each session:
- Concentration — Movement starts in the mind. By consciously focusing on how a muscle engages or how a movement feels, you begin to retrain more efficient patterns, especially important when the body has developed compensatory habits around pain or weakness.
- Control — Every movement is deliberate and guided, never relying on momentum. This builds coordination and stability while reducing strain on the spine and joints.
- Connected Breathing — Breath is used as a tool, not an afterthought. Connecting breath to movement supports deep core activation, reduces tension, and helps regulate your nervous system throughout exercise.
- Core Engagement — True core control goes beyond “abs.” It includes the diaphragm, pelvic floor, deep abdominals, and spinal stabilizers working together to support your body and free your limbs to move with efficiency and ease.
Together, these principles form the foundation of a practice that’s as much about how you move as what you do.

FAQ
Still have more questions? Check out the tabs below. If your questions are still unanswered, please reach out, we love to help get to the root of things.
Pilates can be done on a mat or on specialized equipment. At Acacia, we can utilize a “Reformer,” which consists of a moving carriage that slides along a frame, attached to springs that provide resistance. The spring resistance can be increased or decreased, allowing exercises to be tailored to different strength levels, movement limitations, and rehabilitation goals.
In a clinical setting, the reformer is particularly useful because it allows movements to be performed with support, feedback, and precise load control while minimizing joint strain. It provides a great amount of proprioceptive feedback, so you can feel your body in different positions as you move through space.
Pilates can be a supportive and effective way to move during pregnancy. With an emphasis on safe core engagement, breathing, and your individual health history, it may help reduce back and pelvic discomfort while supporting your body’s changing biomechanics. Please ensure you receive medical clearance from your physician before beginning a new exercise routine.
