Mary Trisha Miciano

Clinical Counsellor

Mary Trisha (Trisha) is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#18670) and a Canadian Certified Counsellor (# 10007769) who uses evidence-based techniques to assist her clients in navigating the complexities of life. Trisha believes that counselling is a collaborative process that requires a supportive environment. She strives to create a counselling environment that will allow her clients to explore and resolve behavioural and emotional challenges that are preventing them from living their best life.

Trisha completed her Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Toronto and her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. Before stepping into the world of counselling, she was involved in substance dependence and traumatic brain injury research, where she developed her passion for helping individuals struggling with their mental health. Trisha’s counselling journey began in Calgary, Alberta, where she provided counselling support for adults experiencing depression, anxiety, vocational stress, behavioural issues, low self-esteem, and relationship issues. Previously, she also worked for community-based programs providing trauma counselling to women exiting violence, abuse, and exploitation.

Trisha offers virtual counselling allowing clients to partake in the comfort of their own homes. She uses a combination of cognitive-behavioural, solution-focused, and feedback-informed approaches to work collaboratively with clients to achieve their goals. In your sessions together, you will look at your thoughts, beliefs, and behaviours and how these are connected to your moods, physical experiences, and events in your life. Together, you will develop incremental goals and a plan to achieve them. Trisha also operates from a polyvagal informed perspective which emphasizes the importance of creating a safe space, as well as working with the nervous system to self-regulate.

Trisha hopes that counselling can serve as a catalyst for personal transformation. She believes that the body and mind are intertwined and is happy to be working alongside the Acacia Health team to deliver interdisciplinary care
