What is Holistic Nutrition?

Holistic Nutrition is a treatment method that works with the body, rather than against it. The human body is extremely intelligent, and when something is out of balance, it communicates to us in the form of signs and symptoms, both chronic and acute. Your nutritionist is here to help you interpret those signals to uncover what exactly the body is trying to say. From there, they will formulate a comprehensive and unique treatment plan to address those imbalances and bring the body back to it’s natural state of health.

Holistic Nutrition offers an active and sustainable approach to healthcare that uses evidence-based techniques for diet, lifestyle and psycho-emotional treatment. It has a strong education in trusted modalities including Ayurvedic Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Modern Science-based Medicine. By looking at all of the elements of what it means to be alive including physical health, mental and emotional experiences, constitutional traits and lifestyle factors, your nutritionist is trained to pinpoint imbalances and work closely with you to restore optimal health.

The goal is to create a plan that is both attainable and sustainable, and that can only happen if you are offered a plan that fits into your life. Your nutritionist will set you up for success with recommendations that feel realistic, inspiring and accessible to you, and will provide on going support and resources to keep you moving forward as you progress and improve.

How Does A Holistic Nutritionist Differ From A Registered Dietitian?

A Registered Dietitian will make recommendations based on the guidelines found in the Canada Food Guide. They are regulated by the government and often work out of government run institutions such as schools and hospitals.

Registered Dieticians do have a wealth of knowledge, however are restricted to the guidelines of the Canada Food Guide, which some people feel can result in a one size fits all approach. For example, there are many categories of the Canada Food Guide which some people do much better when limited such as dairy and wheat, while others require more specialized and intricate diet plans.

Holistic Nutritionists have the freedom and education to formulate treatment plans that are tailored very specifically and uniquely to each person. They look at each person as a whole, taking into account lifestyle, social and emotional factors and the way each contributes to health. Holistic Nutritionists also have a strong foundation in eastern medicines including Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine, offering a different perspective which can be particularly valuable in complicated cases. No two sessions with ever be the same with a Holistic Nutritionist.

What to Expect:

Each 60 or 90 minute initial consultation starts with a thorough intake of health and medical history, assessment of symptoms, a lifestyle and emotional evaluation and basic physical examination techniques.

A 30 minute follow-up session will then be scheduled in which you will receive your comprehensive treatment plan. Your plan will include diet and lifestyle recommendations, food lists, educational resources, recipes, exercises and other resources deemed valuable by your practitioner. Additional appointments will be set up at the discretion of you and your nutritionist.
